Sisonke Games in Numbers

We have come far since our humble beginnings in 2014, with just eight soccer teams. The growth over the years has been pleasantly surprising, and something we are excited about. It's testimony to our community's desire for safe spaces where they can gather, have fun together and strengthen community ties. In 2023 we had hundreds of individuals participating in various sporting activities. Here's a breakdown of the figures:

Soccer

Number of teams: 30 (600 players, including substitutes)

Netball

Number of teams: 10 (150 players, including substitutes)

5km & 10km fun runs: 60 runners

It's important to note that ten years since the inception of the games, we still do not have facilities or infrastructure. Each year we face the daunting task of putting together makeshift facilities, something that is not sustainable. None of the teams are sponsored, which impacts their preparations ahead of the games in terms of having soccer kits, boots, etc for all in the team.
